Add Fuel to Your Relationships
You don’t tell a fireplace, “Give me heat and then I’ll give you wood.” Yet that’s exactly how many of us approach our relationships, “Give to me first, and then I’ll be your friend / mentor / coach / associate.”
To develop any kind of mutually beneficial relationship, we need to create the environment and opportunity first by providing the wood or fuel… that first contact, an offer of friendship, a reason to be connected – and only once we’ve provided enough fuel, will we have a real chance to grow the contact into a relationship.
