Eye Contact, Smiling, Approachable

Making that First Contact

You walk into the room, and it’s buzzing with all the conversations. So, how do you find a group to blend into or someone to talk with? Where do you start, especially if you are new to this group?

Look for someone who is smiling, someone who will make eye contact with you and others. In short, look for someone who appears “approachable”.

And once the eye contact is made, smile back in a friendly manner. Now you have a connection, and you can walk over and start the introductions.

If you find yourself standing alone, use the same tactic: smile and make eye contact with others who may be waiting for you to welcome them into a conversation.
